W. Joseph “Joe” Cunningham began his legal career in Myrtle Beach in 2004, and has represented developers of various residential subdivisions, and resort and residential condominium regimes in both North and South Carolina. Joe also regularly represents lenders in new loans, loan modifications and loan workouts. His practice area focuses on commercial and residential real estate development and finance. Joe heads the real estate department at King Cunningham, and oversees the residential real estate group.
Joe was born in Fayetteville, Tennessee in 1975. At the age of thirteen, he moved to Myrtle Beach and attended Myrtle Beach High School, graduating in 1993.
After graduating from the College of Charleston in Charleston, South Carolina in 1997, Joe received his law degree from the University of South Carolina School of Law. Here, he served as the Social and Alumni Chair for the Southeastern Environmental Law Journal, was a member of Phi Delta Phi legal fraternity, and a recipient of the Roy Webster Scholarship.
In his free time, Joe enjoys spending time with his wife, Jordy and their two children, as well as running, surfing, cooking and participating in all manner of shooting sports.
Joe is a member of the Horry County and South Carolina Bar associations as well as the Brunswick County, and North Carolina Bar Associations.
Joe’s recent community involvement consists serving on of the board of directors of the Brunswick County Chamber of Commerce, the board of directors of Horry County’s Shoreline Behavioral Health Services; membership in the Grand Strand Sertoma Club, Horry County Wildlife Action, the Myrtle Beach Chapter of the Surfrider Foundation, Brunswick County’s’ Chamber of Commerce Young Professionals Network, Brunswick County Home Builder’s Association, the Brunswick County Association of Realtors, and volunteering with Brunswick County Communities in Schools, assisting with their Teen Court program.
